Jan 26, 2018 I set auto brightness off and turn it all the way down cause the screen itself is bright already. But sometimes my brightness setting keep changing. I think an app does that? Advertisement #1 contentryder, Aug 1, 2010. Oct 12, 2011 Brightness Control is a tool for dimming all your Mac's displays with one slider. Now, you can go to bed and still keep an eye out for that oh-so-important instant message or email you've been waiting on - without throwing a pillow over your partner's head.
By default, your Mac adjusts the screen brightness for current light conditions using the built-in ambient light sensor.
Set the brightness automatically
- Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Displays, then click Display.
- Select “Automatically adjust brightness.”
Manually set the brightness
- Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Displays, then click Display.
- Drag the Brightness slider to adjust the brightness of your display.
In certain low-light ambient lighting conditions, such as indoors, the default setting for automatic brightness on your display may limit the maximum brightness to a level that's below its absolute maximum. To set the brightness to the absolute maximum level in these lighting conditions, turn off “Automatically adjust brightness”, then set the brightness to the maximum level.
If you turn off automatic brightness, you should turn it back on later to preserve battery life.
